Detroit

I Moved to Detroit! (Startup Stories 18.04)

My mom was a little freaked out at first … and now I can’t wake up at 8:30am to be to work by 9am … but moving from Ann Arbor to Detroit was definitely worth it! I’m stripped from my comfort zone, exposed to new surroundings and got creative with the daily commute (which isn’t that bad)!

The Corporate Plunge (Startup Stories 18.02)

In early May of 2018, I received an email from Hacker Fellows stating that a space became available for their fellowship program and it would be available to me if I accepted. I was elated. I couldn’t believe that I could have the opportunity to be a part of such a generous and growth-oriented program. That elation lasted for about two days, and then the nerves set in. Then, when I was packing to move to Detroit for 5-weeks to train with the 14 other fellows, the nerves REALLY set in!

Autonomic and the Hacker Fellows Program: Working Together to Drive Innovation, Support Up-and-Coming Talent and Build a Network

As Autonomic is a company that is building the first open cloud-based mobility platform to create a more efficient and sustainable transportation network in the Motor City, partnering with the Hacker Fellows program was a no-brainer. Together we are building a network of startups, students, and recent graduates all working together to better our local entrepreneurial community.

The 2018 Bootcamp Experience (Startup Stories 18.01)

In early May of 2018, I received an email from Hacker Fellows stating that a space became available for their fellowship program and it would be available to me if I accepted. I was elated. Skillin' It (Intern Files #016)

With that being said, I couldn’t have gotten this internship opportunity without Hacker Fellows, and for that I will be forever grateful. The whole Hacker Fellows experience has exceeded my expectations, from the first week of the bootcamp up until now.

Texas to Michigan (Startup Stories 17.09)

Everything I’ve just talked about I could have done in Texas, except for that Michigan quality beer. But even then, it would have been completely different. My first photography pictures wouldn’t have been of the Heidelberg project. I wouldn’t have gotten to get my first bike and ride it around Belle Isle.

One Week of Code, Food and Startups (Intern Files #001)

Before starting the bootcamp I was a little nervous about how things would go down. I would be living with basically 10 strangers in Detroit for a week. It was not like anything I had done before. Being able to learn: for free, without grades, for a solid week -- this experience made my broke college heart smile + it was like a giant sleep-over with a bunch of other computer science nerds.
