It’s been over a month since I started my internship at Clinc. I actually started working before the Hacker Fellows bootcamp so I was able to gain a little more exposure to the startup world than most of the other Hacker Fellows interns. Overall the experience has been great. I’ve learned so much in the technical aspect that I would not have had the chance to learn inside a classroom environment. I was able to submit my first merge request on my second day of work, and it felt amazing to have the code that I wrote be part of the product that people are using.

I’ve also had the chance to become exposed to various technologies such as django and Vue.js. I always felt like I was falling behind on the fast-changing software engineering world but I’m really glad that I was able to learn some of the newest technologies that startups are using.

During my time here, the company has been growing rapidly. We have more than 20 interns and we continue to grow in numbers. It feels great to be part of this new growth that the company is facing. Everyone here is awesome and they are all unique in their ways. I have a great mentor who is always willing to help me out and I never felt intimidated to approach someone.

What I really love about Clinc is that not only does the company help me grow professionally, it also gives me chances to meet new people. Clinc has some great events planned for us interns and constantly provides opportunities for us to get to know each other. We have weekly events ranging from basketball to AI reading groups that allow everyone to talk to each other and hang out. One event that I really enjoyed was hiking at Pinckney, Michigan. We went last Sunday morning and hiked for about 5 miles.

The experience was great. I got to talk to a lot of people and the range of topics varied widely. I loved the fact that we didn’t have to just talk about work and everyone seemed to be genuinely interested in each other.

Honestly the experience so far has far exceeded my expectations. I enjoy waking up and coming to work everyday and am excited about the type of work I will be doing. This opportunity that I’ve gotten through Hacker Fellows led me to change my opinions about the startup culture in Michigan. I’ve met some great people and I’m working at a great company. I’m looking forward to the next couple of months and am excited for the opportunities that I will have.
