When and where is the 1-week bootcamp?

The bootcamp is between the dates of May 21st, 2018 and May 25th, 2018. We will be working out of Hacker Fellows HQ (map) housed at the Detroit Center for Design + Technology (DCDT). DCDT acts as an inclusive platform for the advancement of Detroit’s educational, economic and engagement efforts with regard to design, technology and social innovation.

What can be expected of the bootcamp curriculum?

In 2018 we will be utilizing a flipped lecture format where online lectures/course material will be prerecorded and administered on Slack one night prior to the coinciding class. Each lecture will be paired with necessary executables. The next morning, interns will present their findings to the entire cohort. Technical topics include, Developer Methods, Git, HTML and CSS, PostgreSQL, Ruby on Rails and Sprint Planning.

On the softer side of things, Invest Detroit will lead an entrepreneurial training session so interns learn the inns and outs of growing a successful startup in Michigan.

Our top priority is equipping you so there is a seamless integration between interns and their startups.

What is the living situation like during the bootcamp?

All interns are housed at Wayne State University (map) from Sunday, May 20th, 2018 through Saturday, May 26th, 2018. Interns will be living in one of the university's dorm facilities with a communal kitchen on each floor. Don't worry, the dorm rooms are surprisingly spacious and yes, there is WIFI. We suggest you bring specialities if needed, sleeping bag, soap, towel, GameCube and such.
